Healthcare
Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. That’s why I’m fighting to:
- Create a single-payer healthcare system. Right now, many New Yorkers are underinsured or completely uninsured. And if they do have private health insurance, it’s often incredibly expensive and bureaucratic. The New York Health Act would create a statewide, single-payer healthcare system that covers everyone and ensures that no one pays a dime for their medical care.
- Guarantee Coverage for All. This legislation would make everyone eligible for health insurance, regardless of their immigration status.
- Pass Fair Pay for Home Care. As a former home care worker, I understand how difficult the job can be for so little pay. This legislation would set wages at least 150% of the minimum wage and remedy our state’s dangerous home care shortage.

During her decade in office, Barrett has failed working families by:
- Repeatedly refusing to support Fair Pay for Home Care legislation.
- Failing to support Coverage for All legislation.
- Voting for the April 2020 state budget, which cut Medicaid by $2.5 billion a year—including $400 million from hospitals—at the height of COVID-19.
