Justice
The best way to reduce crime is to invest in our communities, not in mass incarceration. That’s why I’m fighting to:
- Expand parole to vulnerable populations. The Elder and Fair and Timely Parole bills would give people in prison a second chance at life.
- Expand treatment programs. The Treatment Not Jail Act would expand eligibility to help people with disabilities get the help they need.
- End legal slavery in New York. Most New Yorkers support closing the loophole of the Thirteenth Amendment and ending forced prison labor.
Compare to Didi Barrett’s record:
During her decade in office, Barrett has sided with far-right Republicans over Black and brown communities by:
- Voting with Republicans against an end to prison gerrymandering, which allows Republicans to exploit incarcerated people—who have lost their right to vote—to increase their representation in Congress and state legislatures.
- Voted with Republicans against a minimal marijuana reform that would have equalized penalties for public and private possession.
- Voting with Republicans against multiple bills making it easier for formerly incarcerated people to obtain employment after they’ve served their time.
- Failing to support Fair and Timely Parole, the Treatment Not Jail Act, and an end to legal slavery in New York.
